AST/Returning Tutor Training Strand

Below are the sessions for the new AST/Returning Tutor strand of the Researcher Development Programme summer training weekend. Please see the session descriptions below and sign up at the bottom of the page.

Please remember that sessions for the AST/Returner strand are offered for two training weekends in a row. These sessions were offered at the January training weekend so will not be available again ahead of the autumn term.

Widening Participation: Creating a taster lecture

In this session you will:

  • look at barriers to higher education
  • discuss the importance of information, advice and guidance (IAG)
  • design a WP taster session

Careers: How to market your PhD

In this session you will:

  • identify the key skills you have developed as a researcher and as a Brilliant Club tutor
  • relate your skills to the needs of employers using job specifications
  • practise answering competency questions

Tutorial Pedagogy: Making the most of the sixth tutorial

In this session you will:

  • discuss the principles of effective feedback
  • look at research in to feedback
  • create a session plan for the sixth tutorial

Course design

You are welcome to attend this session with new tutors even if you have delivered your own course before but feel you could benefit from the input of Brilliant Club staff and PhD tutors to help with your revisions.

Delivering a pre-designed programme

Returning tutors delivering a pre-designed programme are also welcome to join this session with new tutors should they wish to spend time working with Brilliant Club staff and PhD tutors on the delivery of the course.
